Based on a recent plant collection from Bahrain, two families, five genera and fourteen species are newly recorded to the previous checklist of the flora of Bahrain. The families are Fumariaceae and Nyctaginaceae, while the new genera are Comunicarpus, Cynanchum, Fumaria, Halodule and Halophia. The new species are Amaranthus hybridus (Amaranthaceae), Cynanchum (Asclepiadaceae), Capparis leucophylla (Capparaceae). Salsola drummondii and Salsola Jordanicola (Chenopodiaceae), Calendula tripterocarpa (Compositae). Halodule uninervis (Cymodoceaceae) Euphorbia hirta and Euphorbia indica (Euphorbiaceae), Fumaria parviflora (Fumariaceae) Halophila ovalis and Halophila stipulacea (Hydrocharitaceae), Comunicarpus plumbagineus (Nyctaginaceae) and Datura innoxia (Solanaceae). Localities, dates of collection, collectors, number of specimens and the place of deposition are given. A map of distribution for the new taxa is given.

A field trial was conducted at the Muwaqqar Research Station in the 1996/1997 growing season to evaluate the effect of three seeding rates and three water levels of supplemental irrigation on the forage and grain yield of two barley cultivars (ACSAD 176 and Rum). Supplemental irrigation was applied at three stages during the growth of the barley crop as follows: at germination, tillering and booting stages. A single clipping at the tillering stage produced the highest fresh and dry matter yield for both cultivars grown under the highest water level. By increasing both the seeding rate and supplemental irrigation, plant height, fresh matter yield, dry matter yield and biological yield were increased. Cultivar ACSAD 176 produced 1547 kg/ha of dry matter under the highest water level , while cultivar Rum produced 1454 kg/ha under the same water level. Meanwhile, the highest grain yield (505 kg/ha) was obtained from unclipped Rum plants grown at the highest water level and a seeding rate of 100 kg/ha. However, clipping reduced the grain yield for the same treatments by about 54%. It is concluded that barley can be grown in dry areas with water application at a rate of 140 mm distributed according to the growth stages of the crop.

The mutagenicity and genotoxicity of chemotherapeutic drugs used as chemical antibiotics in most tumours as anticarcinogenic agents were studied. Cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (cisplatin) is a commonly used chemotherapeutic agent in the treatment of ovarian, testicular and bladder cancer. It is used intravenously, intra arterially and intraperitoneally. Group I adult male rats were injected with a single dose at a level of 1/2 LD50 (16 mg/kg body weight (a half carcinogenic dose). Group II rats were treated with 9 mg/kg body weight (recommended dose) intraperitoneally injected. The abnormally shaped sperms were recorded after 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 weeks post-injection. The frequency of abnormally shaped sperms was noted within the first three weeks post-injection, and highly significant abnormalities were recorded at the end of second week (181.4 ± 24.9) and (145 .1 ± 28.6) in Groups I and II, respectively. Recovery from the genotoxicity of cisplatin was achieved at the end of the 5th week

The present study assesses the nutritive value of range plants in the Western Mediterranean Desert of Egypt to evaluate their usage as forage for domestic animals (mainly sheep and goats). Analysis of plant organs which represent the diet selected by the herbivores indicated that their mean protein content is about 1.1 0/0 . This is lower than the proper level , but it is ranked as acceptable protein content. The average digestible protein intake was about 46.4 g 100 kg live weight-l day-I, which is inadequate for the protein needs of grazing animals. The amount of total digestible nutrient (TDN) was also lower than the normal requirements of the sheep. The shortfall in forage nutrition may be attributed to the high stocking rate. If the stocking rate is about seven times lower than the present value, most of the requirements of energy and protein could be fulfilled in the range. The ratio of Ca: P was higher than the optimum, which may lead to lower utilization of both Ca and P by animals.

Ground water quality of four fish farms (A, B, C and D) at different locations in Al-Qassim region was studied seasonally. The use of groundwater in these fish farms was found to be suitable for fish culture except at farm D where the water temperature was very high (50.8 °-57. J °C). The water is being stored initially in a fully aerated pond overnight and was observed to be suitable for tilapia culture. There was no significant seasonal difference in pH, hardness and salinity whereas NO3- N, NO2-N, NH3-N and PO4 showed higher values in winter. Water quality parameters such as pH, alkalinity, NO3-N, NO2-N, NH3-N and PO4 were recorded to be always higher in fish farm A than the other three farms. The growth rate of the fish in fish farm D decreased apparently because 50-60% of the fish were deformed.

The changes in nutrient contents of some halophytic plants which occurred in a salt marsh located in the vicinity of Bafra town, on the north coast of Turkey during the growing season were investigated. Contents of SO4, Cl, Na, K, Ca and Mg changed during the growing season in most species. High correlation coefficients were obtained between plant ion and soil ion contents. It has been found that the most prevalent ion was Na in the plant and soil samples. It was also shown that species diversity was quite low in the study area, and species diversity was highly correlated with So4/Cl ratio, electrical conductivity and pH.

M. S. Baouendi, C. Goulaouic and G. Metivier studied in (Baouendi, Goulaouic and Metivier (1983)) analytic pseudodifferential operators through description of their kernels on one hand and their symbols on the other hand. We extend, in this article, this study to the pseudodifferential operators associated to Hormander symbols of Gevrey type.

This study has shown the effect of camel's urine on the growth and some other metabolic activities of Aspergillus niger. The results proved that the effect on metabolic of A. niger depended on the camel's urine concentration and the fungal age. The results further indicated that the lower concentration of camel's urine had a stimulative effect on glucose uptake. This effect decreased with the progress of fungal culture age, while 4 % and 6 % of the camel's urine had a suppressive effect glucose uptake. The lower concentrations lead to the highest suppression in nitrate uptake by the fungus, however, the effect decreased until it turned into a progressive stimulative effect until the age of fungal culture reached the sixth day. The amount of amino acids secreted, increased in the nutrient media in concentrations used. This increase was synchronized with the concentration, whereas the stimulative effect turned to an inhibitory one with the progress of fungal culture age.

A nine point formula to approximate the Laplace operator for irregular domains has been derived using the Taylor series. This formula proves to be of order O(h2). A comparison with those methods on finite difference and finite element has shown that the above formula is more accurate.
